Rachel High (Adelaide) and Julie McNamara (UK) first met at a disability arts conference in 2006, sparking an instant creative connection. Together, they created Steak n’ Chelsea—a bold, unapologetic story about two sisters reuniting after years apart. One is returning home from prison. The other has been hiding a cruel truth about their mother and the solitude she lived in.

One sister has Down Syndrome, the other a brain injury and a seriously checkered past. Together, they navigate long-buried secrets, complex family dynamics, and what it means to come home after everything has changed.

This groundbreaking collaboration challenges expectations and celebrates queer disability identity with humor, heart, and unflinching honesty. Steak n’ Chelsea premiered at Adelaide’s Feast Festival in 2010 as part of a double bill with Derby and Joan.
