About

A Film for Educational Change
No Strings Theatre Of Disability premiered LISTEN in 2024, a powerful short film that emerged from a vital research collaboration with Flinders University exploring the support needs of school students with autism. LISTEN presented the outcomes of important research identifying what students with autism need to feel safe at school. This innovative project demonstrated how professional theatre practice can amplify academic research, transforming data into compelling human stories that drive real change.

The film was produced in collaboration with House of Spaghetti (our partners on the My Stories Matter trilogy) and Nazareth College, who generously provided their school campus as the filming location. This partnership approach exemplified No Strings’ commitment to meaningful community collaboration. LISTEN moved audiences deeply, with many viewers expressing that it should be compulsory viewing for pre-service and in-service teachers alike. The film provides invaluable insight into the challenges facing students with autism, offering educators a powerful tool for understanding and supporting their students more effectively.

Creating Change Through Art
LISTEN represents No Strings’ commitment to using professional theatre and film to address urgent social issues. By giving voice to the experiences of students with autism, the film creates opportunities for greater understanding, empathy, and positive change in educational settings. This groundbreaking work showcases how fearless, limitless, boundless storytelling can transform research into action and create meaningful impact in the lives of young people.
