No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability, in collaboration with Kura Yerlo, presented Mar the Cockatoo, a beautiful retelling of a Boandik dreamtime story through dance and theatre movement.
A creation story from Boandik country, specific to the Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell region in South Australia, where Mar was believed to have lived.
This production brought together No Strings’ Tracking Culture drama workshop and Kura Yerlo’s visual arts program “Karrarendi” (meaning “to rise up and be proud”). Together, these artists shared cultural knowledge through movement, honouring Boandik traditions while creating on Kaurna land.
Performed with deep respect for Country and cultural protocols, Mar the Cockatoo demonstrated how Indigenous storytelling can be honoured through collaborative artistic practice, creating meaningful connections across cultures while celebrating the power of dreamtime stories.
