Floods of Fire: Our Voices, Our Dreams
Fire marked a significant milestone for No Strings Theatre Of Disability as our first commissioned work for Adelaide Festival in our 30-year history. Created specifically for the citizen activation event Floods of Fire: Our Voice, Our Dreams, this powerful production was commissioned by renowned Austrian programmer Aaran Berg as part of Adelaide Festival’s exploration of flood and fire impact on communities.
The Production
Coordinated by Jermaine Hampton, Fire featured professional performers Ricky Samai and Jeshua Paterson in a deeply moving theatrical experience that gave tangible performance presence to the recorded voices of front-line emergency responders. The work authentically shared the lived experiences of firefighting and flood recovery workers, creating a bridge between their stories and audiences through the unique artistic interpretation of our performers.
Community Partnership
Created in partnership with MESHA, Fire exemplified No Strings’ commitment to collaborative practice while addressing urgent social themes. This citizen activation project demonstrated how professional disability theatre can contribute meaningfully to community conversations about resilience, service, and shared experience.
Legacy Impact
Fire represents another groundbreaking first for No Strings – our inaugural Adelaide Festival commission that showcased our ability to create socially engaged, professionally excellent theatre that resonates with diverse audiences. This work reinforced our mission of creating fearless, limitless, boundless art while expanding our reach into new artistic territories and prestigious cultural platforms.
