AS ONE

2005: Men's ensemble performance

About

AS ONE (2005) was a bold presentation from No Strings Attached’s men’s ensemble, staged as part of the Awakenings Festival in Horsham. Developed from ensemble practice and collaborative creation, the piece foregrounded the voices, rhythms and perspectives of its performers — offering a portrait of camaraderie, resilience and shared identity.

The production was ensemble-led in spirit: material grew from group devising sessions, movement and vocal work, and the lived experience of each performer. The show balanced moments of sharp humour with quieter reflections, using direct address, physical theatre and song to create a textured, human portrait of life, friendship and belonging.

Presented in a regional festival context, AS ONE demonstrated No Strings Attached’s commitment to taking disability-led performance beyond metropolitan stages, making work that connects with diverse communities across Victoria. The Horsham season allowed the company to showcase its men’s ensemble practice, broaden audience engagement, and deepen the company’s touring experience.
