- Board, Member
Dr Sharon Mascall-Dare OAM PhD GAICD is a communications specialist, educator, and creative practitioner whose career spans journalism, academia, Defence, and the arts. She began her professional life as a BBC and ABC journalist and producer, creating award-winning long-form radio and television documentaries, and is passionate about storytelling at the nexus of creative practice, empowerment, and social impact. Her academic work and teaching have explored media, memory, and representation, particularly in relation to war, identity, and marginalised voices.
A graduate in modern languages and literature from the University of Oxford, Sharon first joined the No Strings Attached community as a playwright. She co-wrote My War (2023) and High (2024). Sharon also brings lived experience of disability through her family, which strongly informs her dedication to inclusive practice, and commitment to collaboration.
Today, Sharon works in the Australian Defence Force while pursuing her passion for creative arts and supporting Boards as a non-executive director in the not-for-profit sector. She joined the No Strings Attached board due to her deep belief in the power of inclusive, high-quality artistic practice to empower individuals, shift narratives and create lasting social change. She stands by No Strings’ commitment to artistic excellence and creative leadership by artists with disability, bringing governance experience, communications expertise, and a strong personal commitment to theatre as a force for dignity and belonging.
